Olympic spirit and heavy heart

Attending the winter Olympics has been a lifelong dream. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. The excitement was dimmed somewhat after receiving a phone call the morning prior to departure. My grandmother (actually step-grandmother) raised my two brothers and me (a daunting task). While she has lived a full life, the last two years have been difficult with dementia. I received the call that she had only hours to live. Actually it is a blessing.

I am so lucky to have this loving, gentle woman be a huge part of my life. I learned many things from her. One of the strongest lessons was, "If it is worth doing, it is worth doing well." I guess that is same as "Go for the Gold" just in different words.

Thanks grandma, we will dedicate our journey to you.

On to Torino!
Ciao
